Seit einiger Zeit habe ich einen Tensa4, mit welchem ich auch recht zufrieden bin.
Die Ausführung die ich nutze ist die von 2018 mit den „small toggles“, also den 8mm Löchern für die Verbinder. Zu diesen „small toggles“ kam vor kurzem eine Warnung von Todd&Cheryl, dass es im Prinzip einen Designfehler gibt und es wurde eine Möglichkeit aufgezeigt, wie man diese Ausführung trotzdem gefahrlos verwenden kann. Leider ist dies nicht der Fall!
Warum das so ist möchte ich hier aufzeigen, da ich gestern fast das Pech hatte auf dem A... zulanden. Vorweg möchte ich aber noch klarstellen, dass ich Todd&Cheryl darüber informiert habe, dass Ihre Fehlervermeidungsmaßnahme aus meiner Sicht ein wichtiges Detail übersieht, was sofort fatal enden kann.
Zunächst mal die Email mit der „Safety Warning“ von Todd&Cheryll:

Do not use these as originally directed
Instead, users should secure the connections using a carabiner or similarly sturdy item on the end of the loop, like this:

While these small toggles pass our strength testing when new, they have proven too easily damaged, sometimes invisibly, in rough handling, accidents, or extremes of normal use, and they may then break under load. We have received enough reports of this happening (about 0.25%) to expect more cases without corrective action. We have received no reports of injury.
We will replace any broken small toggles, now called push pins, noting that you should use only as a push pin to thread the lines through the holes in the ends of the poles, not to secure the connections as a toggle. Use carabiners for that.
We have begun the process of revising all print and video documentation to reflect this change, and of notifying affected customers directly by email.
This notice does not affect the currently shipping large toggles, which pass through larger (12mm) holes in the ends of the poles. It is nonetheless good practice to attach the carabiners to the ends of the loops as directed above, facing the inside opposite connection in the stand, because it prevents the carabiners from bending as can sometimes occur with other attachment styles.
These large toggles are not affected
Affected users may opt to migrate to the new larger toggle specification for the cost of shipping. We require return of the 8 end segments of each stand (minus feet) to perform the necessary modifications.

Wenn man wie in der neuen Anleitung angegeben in der Schlaufe außen den Karabiner einhängt, dann verhält sich die Verteilung der Kräfte deutlich anders und dafür ist das Material nicht in jedem Fall geeignet. Konkret kann es passieren, dass die Schlaufe nicht gerade in Richtung Last (Hängematte) zeigt, sondern dass sie sich grob gesagt wie ein „S“ windet. Wenn eine größere Kraft angelegt wird, dann möchte sich das „S“ in Richtung der Kraft, ausgehend vom Fixpunkt, strecken.
Was dann passiert sieht man hier:
Die Vorder- und Rückseite des Segments, nach dem sich das „S“ gestreckt hat.
Das Amsteel reißt das Aluminium ein und schafft sich so einen Kanal der kleine Scherkräfte mit sich bringt, bzw. so weit, dass ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Zugfestigkeit der verwendeten Aluminiumlegierung und der angelegten Kraft herrscht.
Es ist also wichtig dass man die Schlaufe in die Richtung der Hängematte zeigen lässt, oder den Karabiner, welcher die Schlaufe als Verstärkung für den toggle blockieren soll nicht belastet.
In diesem Fall muss man die Hängematte anders befestigen.
Sobald ich eine Antwort von Todd&Cheryll habe werde ich sie hier ebenfalls veröffentlichen.
